Tidalblinks, Elf Mage of Water

Third on the Elf Mage toothpick doll series is the element of water. Remember when I mentioned in my previous entry for the series that I liked Magicknight Rayearth?  For this elf mage toothpick doll, I got inspired again from one of the main characters,  Umi Ryuuzaki's  costume on one of the episodes  when she boarded the battleship of the twins, Tarta and Tatra .  But enough talk about the anime, I might end up talking about it for the length of this post and that's not my goal here.  I have always enjoyed the water element. I had wished I have a water aspect in my personality: being able to fit in on whatever situation or being able to mingle easily with different kinds of people. Just like how water adapts to different container shapes. I have always been the introverted type. Put me in a room with strangers and I would totally freak out inside, thinking about what would be a nice conversation-starter until I end up not talking at all. Most of the time

Alice, Guardian of Courage (Everwing)

Have you joined the latest game craze on Facebook Messenger recently? Have you ever received notifications of challenges from your friends about this surprisingly addictive game? Have you ever wondered what's the latest fuss among Facebook Messenger users? It's none other than the Everwing game. It's similar with the classic mobile game called Space Impact we used to play even before the existence of smartphones and Wifi. Everwing can be played on android and IOS devices online. It's actually an entertaining game, if I do say so myself. It's great for passing time or when you're on the bus ride going home. But never play it when you're walking because you might bump into something on your way like what happened to me. I was playing Everwing and was walking out of my room. I relied completely on my peripheral view but poof! I ended up bumping my forehead on the door, giving my sister a good laugh. It's a game where you just simply swipe

Embertongue, Elf Mage of Fire

Apart from ice, fire is another element close to my heart. Not because of having hot temperament or fierce personality but because of childish reasons. When I was a kid, there were lots of anime cartoons under the fantasy genre, and my favorite among them was  Magicknight Rayearth. Okay, it's still one of my favorites until now. After all, my favorite character there was Hikaru Shidou, and her element was fire. She's not really similar to who I am in person, but she's the one I wish my life was; strong-willed, brave, and can befriend almost anyone. And due to my otaku side, I decided to make her my model for my next Elf Mage doll. Presenting Embertongue, the elf mage of fire. She came from the and of Eternal Crimson Flames. Yep. Obviously I copied Hikaru Shidou's hairstyle. I just added one more pigtail instead of only one. But I really liked her concave bob hairstyle though. Despite all the difficulties of cutting her hair to perfecti

Icytoes, Elf Mage of Ice

I can't quite remember what urged me to create an elf mage toothpick dolls series, but I will talk about it anyway. I guess it was because I liked watching shows with elemental abilities like Avatar. Even the Kpop boyband group EXO whose debut single Mama  used 'elemental powers' for each of their members, and I must've listened to the song for God knows how many and I lost count. And it just so happens that my favorite member of the group was Xiumin whose element was the frost. So I guess he inspired me to make a toothpick doll ice mage. While I was brainstorming for design ideas, I thought of consulting old uncle Google for inspiration. The suggestions mostly showed mages with wands or scepters, wearing capes and hoodies, and with details that are geometrical which I believe must be icicles attached to their costumes (if they were actual people, how do they walk so dignified while there are thick icicles sticking out of their backs?) Then I saw on

Destined to be Yours Fan Art (Part 2)

Feeling the AlDub fever yet? On my previous post I spoke about my entry on the third week of the Destined to be Yours Fan Art Contest by GMA7. On this post, I will talk about yet another entry I submitted on the same contest. After the hype I got from getting top 10 on the contest, I just couldn't stop there. Nope. It only made me want to keep trying. Somehow it reminded me of a quote a senior in my high school told me before when I was a freshman: Success isn't measure by the failures you make, but the struggles you do whenever you fail. I may have failed to win Maine Mendoza's flower crown, I still decided to give it another try, if it's the last thing I do. After all, the prizes offered turned out to be getting bigger each week. By the time I decided to submit another entry again, it was on the 6th week, and the prize at stake was Maine Mendoza's nightgown which she wore on one of the episodes of the TV drama and a limited edition Destined to

Destined to be Yours Fan Art (Part 1)

Are you a fan of Alden Richards and Maine Mendoza? Have you seen their TV series entitled "Destined to be Yours?" Or are you fond of crafting with basically whatever-you-can-find-in-your-grandmother's-kitchen-and-knitting-kit? Or are you just a bored soul like me who is trying to find something worthwhile to do on your free time? Then you're in the right place. But just to be clear, this isn't a tutorial on how to make toothpick dolls. I will post a tutorial on the basics of creating toothpick dolls soon. But for now, I will just talk about one of the highlights of my hobby, toothpick doll making. GMA7 (one of Philippines' major TV networks) launched a fan art contest for their TV drama series Destined to be Yours . It starred Alden Richards and Maine Mendoza, famously called AlDub  in the Philippines and one of the most popular celebrities in Philippine show business. The fan art contest ran for 10 weeks, each with different prizes
