Skybreath, the Elf Mage of Air

Presenting the newest addition to my elf mage toothpick doll series is Skybreath, who is by far my favorite. One of the reasons why is because I think and I believe I have outdone myself when making her. Never have I imagined I'll be able to make her style possible.

I am always surprised with the outcomes of my dolls. It always felt like first love every time I finish a doll. There's something about making toothpick dolls that makes me happy. Just imagine the feeling you get when you make the things you thought were impossible at first, but in the long run, you made it. That's what I feel when I imagine a challenging design, then after the endless process of doubting myself over and over again, I managed to pull it off just the way I imagined it.

But enough with me showing off. Let's talk about Skybreath instead. She came from the Kingdom of High Winds. She would often contradict Rockyfangs into discussions, and she could shush Embertongue's anger fits. Rockyfangs would call her an airhead, because she tends to double check their battle strategies everytime, almost to the point where others would think she's the forgetful type. But she was only making sure there are no loopholes and she needed to guarantee that their strategies will work, although she wasn't aware the others see her as someone who easily forgets.

When I thought of making an elf mage for air, my initial design was a toothpick doll with wings. You know, the usual angel wings and whatnot having Tinkerbell-like mini dress. But I scratched that since I thought maybe it was to cliche to have angel wings and maybe the mini dress has just been 'too common' in my opinion. So I decided to give Skybreath a style that is dignified and something the other elf mages would look up to, metaphorically and literally.

I tried to give her the personality of someone who rules the sky, who is both bright and dignified. Ironically, I ended up giving her a mermaid-tail gown even though she holds the element of air. And speaking of the mermaid-tail style, I never knew it could be possible with toothpick dolls. To my surprise, I got it on first attempt and just added a few tweaks to create the shape I wanted. And since her name carries the sky, I figured I should give her details representing the sunlight, hence, the gold chains on her belt, cuff bracelets, crown, and necklace.

I gave her butterfly wings just for a change. Actually I thought it's easier to make if it's a pair of butterfly wings instead of angel wings. Haha. I used a glittery gold nail polish to give accent to her wings and to complement her overall look. I also gave her a bob hair resembling that of Sylvie Vartan's hairstyle back in the 60s. I just thought this kind of hair would give emphasis to her off-shoulder gown.

Surprisingly, it even complemented her pair of elf ears which is great!

Skybreath is my current bias. She's the one I am proudest simply because of the design I gave her. She doesn't have anything related to my deeper self but she brought out the creativity in me. She made me go beyond what I thought were my limits.

America Singer (Part 2), The Selection in Toothpick Dolls Series

Who wouldn't want to see America Singer in toothpick doll version wearing her signature blue gown she wore on her debut on the Illea Capital Report? After I created a toothpick doll version of her first ever day dress when she arrived at the palace, it inspired me to make another America Singer toothpick doll looking regal and princess-like. I might actually make more Americas in the future since she wore a bunch of outfits in the whole series and add to that her signature outfits on the book covers of The Selection, The Elite, and The One.  But apart from being the main character of the series, she's my favorite since she's got the personality I can probably relate to in some cases. She's a little introverted (I think), doesn't have a lot of friends, likes to do things on her own, may be a little stubborn, and likes to remain grounded despite all the fancy opportunities offered by living in the palace. But she also has some characteristics I look

Lunar New Year Toothpick Dolls

It's that time of the year when people celebrate the coming of the new year under the Lunar calendar. Chinese people celebrate this event in a very colorful way. The culture and tradition is evident on the clothes they wear, the food, the dance, and the whole celebration itself. Compared to the way my family celebrates the solar new year, it's fun in its own way. Not only do the Chinese people celebrate at this time of the year. Countries such as Brunei, Vietnam, Singapore, Indonesia, Malaysia, North Korea and South Korea celebrate this holiday as well, however, it is also widely celebrated here in the Philippines as there are Chinese communities living in the country although it is not exactly a declared holiday. The Lunar New Year doesn't have a fixed date unlike the other celebrated holidays in the Gregorian calendar. In South Korea, the locals celebrate the new year in a duration of three days. But this year, it falls on a weekend, making it a long

America Singer, The Selection Series

If you came into this post then one thing is for sure: you know who America Singer is and you've also read the Selection series. I've recently come across with this series. I've been a reader of thriller genres or novels about some heroic detective solving various cases of murder and stuff. I was never a fan of the romance genre and I would always pass by the romance section on our local bookstore. Then out of the blue, I just felt like I'm getting fed up with the same genre after reading them for years. Hell, most of the books I have on my shelf are of the thriller genre. I believe it should've been a habit, but I got tired to the point of having a hard time turning the page. I was dumbfounded since, I am a lover of books and it's heart-breaking to put down a book unfinished, or having a lack of passion to read again. I felt lost. Then one day, I went to the local bookstore with my cousin to pass time. Crazy right? Most people would probabl
